Through a Tear and a Smile

I was walking down through the city

When I ran into a friend of mine; It’s been a long long time

She took my hand and we started walking

Down to a Café to have a drink or two; and catching up on news

I must say that the time’s been good to you

She took a paper out of her wallet

I could see a heart with our names drawn too; Where the ink bled through

It’s just a page from one of my notebooks

It gives me comfort whenever I’m feeling blue; and to remember you

After all these years you must think I’m a fool

She looked at me through a tear and a smile

As she reached for my hand

I never told you then just how much those times together meant

On a beach where the sun was setting

The world was perfect and I was holding you; Two hearts drawn together

It’s a story that never ended

This timeless moment my thoughts are driven to; Deep in my soul forever

I guess you see that I still think about you too

She looked at me through a tear and a smile

     While holding my hand

She said there’s times that I sit and wonder; How we might have       been

She checked the time and said she had to be leaving

To meet her family at home; How about you; No I’m just passing through

We left the café and it started raining

She said it was sure good seeing you; and as she turned she whispered

God only knows I’ll still think about you

Through the rain all I saw was her smile

She turned the corner and waved

And like some dream that I used to rely on; She faded away

So I went walking down through the city
